Educate, Empower, and Encourage Kids with Incarcerated Parents

Light Christian Academy exists to break the cycle of incarceration by educating, empowering, and encouraging children with incarcerated parents and their families. We offer a full academic program as well as enrichment through fine arts, music, and choir for grades K-6. The school is tuition-free; paid for by donations and grants.

Kids Enjoy Learning at Light Christian Academy

Students at Light Christian Academy are surrounded by love and prayer. The power of prayer and encouragement helps our students relax and enjoy learning in a safe place.

History

IN 1990, ROBIN KHOURY WAS PRAYING AT HER KITCHEN TABLE

She got an impression from God that someday she would have a school for kids who came from lower-income areas. Nothing happened for 18 years, except for some random thoughts and journal entries. In the meantime, Robin was homeschooling her sons and volunteering with kids at her church. When her boys went off to college, Robin switched from working with children to prisoners. She helped provide church services at the Federal Transfer Center and mentored women at Mabel Basset Maximum Security Prison. Then one day she went to a Summit on Women’s Incarceration. At that summit, one of the speakers said, "The minute a child's parent goes to prison, they begin to struggle in school." At that moment, Robin remembered the day at the kitchen table. She felt God impressing her that children of the incarcerated were the ones He was talking about all of those years ago. Mrs. Khoury incorporated Little Light Ministries the next day. It took three years to start the school, which began in the fall of 2012 with six students.
